CUNYfirst is Coming!

CUNYfirst stands for Fully Integrated Resources and Services Tool and for CUNY it means a massive upgrade in how we’ll do things in the future.

New CUNYfirst processes in Student Administration, Human Resources and Finance will change how we do everything from registering for classes to paying our bills.  CUNYfirst applications will replace aging legacy systems like SIMS and CUPS and help us streamline and standardize many of the things we do at our colleges.  CUNYfirst will be implemented in phases.  Base processes for business, HR and academic structure will be created first, with enhancements and new modules being added in the coming years.

The CUNYfirst Project is planned to last until early 2012 and is intended to establish CUNY processes well into the future.

CUNYfirst is…

    • Integration
    •  Industry Best Practices
    •  Standardization without loss of identity
    •  Self-Service
    •  Accurate and timely information to better serve students, faculty and staff
    •  Replacement of aging computer systems

Integration – For the first time, having a system that manages our students education and records connects to the systems that run our businesses and the systems that keep personnel records of our faculty and staff.

Industry Best Practices – Put into place systems and procedures that comply with CUNY’s common goal of providing the best customer service to our students, faculty, staff and community.

Standardization without loss of identity – Put into place common processes that can be accepted across the university while allow campuses to continue their unique missions.

Self-service – Make available modern systems and processes that allow the user more control and flexibility.

Accurate and timely information – Have information when we need it so we can perform our work on our timetable.

Replacement of aging computer systems – Our main systems for human resources and student administration are a generation old and have reached their capacity.  We need the most modern educational and business systems to meet the high standards of CUNY, its students, faculty and staff, and all our customers

CUNYfirst TRAINING CENTERS OPEN

Our first sessions of Training began April 14 with 40 colleagues from around the university who will train users in the General Ledger processes.  We opened our new Borough Training Centers at Brooklyn College (photos above) and City College as our trainers learned presentation skills, classroom management and conflict resolution.  They will return on April 28th to begin learning the content of the classes they will teach for the end users of the new CUNY General Ledger.  Our thanks to David Arnow at Brooklyn College and Tom Sabia at City College who oversaw the set-up and technology needs for our new learning laboratories.

Training for General Ledger end users will begin May 19.

CUNY FIRST Training Manager Adante Harvey has announced the four centers that will serve as regional training centers for the CUNYfirst Project.

They are: BROOKLYN/STATEN ISLAND- Brooklyn College, BRONX - Hostos Community College, MANHATTAN/STATEN ISLAND - City College, QUEENS - Queens College.
